**Breaking News **

Artillery shell filled with Sarin Never Agent found in Iraq.

Story still developing...

It was a roadside bomb and it was detonated before troops could neutralize it. A small amount of gas was released. No casulties have been reported.

quick prediction: this will NOT make the nightly network newscasts this evening. And if it does, it will be dismissed as JUST ONE shell...when they find 10 the media will say its JUST Ten...when they find 100 they'll say it was JUST 100 AND IT DOESN'T PROVE ANYTHING...

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 10:54 AM

Well, they didnt find 10 or 100 yet, so shut the fuck up about it.

Posted by: nunya at May 17, 2004 11:06 AM

Gosh, how'd you guess that, chris? I mean, you'd think there was a pattern of these dismissals or something!
</sarcasm>

Posted by: Dave at May 17, 2004 11:06 AM

Oh, go jump in the lake, nunya.

Posted by: Beth Donovan at May 17, 2004 11:38 AM

Moonbat alert, everyone...Nunya is showing his/her education and upbringing...when are you due back at the halfway house, genius? I await more from your spectacular vocabulary with eagerness...

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 11:57 AM

Arne, good info thanks...blaming America first (again) aside, is it a chemical weapon or isnt' it?

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 12:17 PM

we'll see how this plays out and then we'll see who has to replace their mattress, fair enough Arne?

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 12:19 PM

I don't doubt that for one second, Arne. I consider myself duly warned...

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 12:38 PM

Chris - wanna meet sometime at a nice gay bar? I would really like to get to know you better.

Posted by: Nunya at May 17, 2004 12:45 PM

whew, Gordon, that was a good one...hey folks, chalk one up for Gordon, he's tied 1-1 with nunya for absolutely asinine, useless comment of the day...keep it comin' boys, there's a big bowl of applesauce for the winner...and don't worry, you won't have to hold the spoon, they'll just choo-choo it right into your mouth...

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 01:06 PM

Just making sure here... it was still a mortar round that Iraq was supposed to have destroyed, right? It was still a WMD if fired correctly by military forces (as opposed to garden variety terrorists), right? And don't forget the shell with mustard gas last week.

Oh yeah, nothing to see here folks... moveon.

Posted by: Cam at May 17, 2004 01:11 PM

No Cam, it appears that we're just supposed to shut the **** up and not wet our beds...awaiting further brilliant insight...you clear on this now?

Chris

Posted by: chris at May 17, 2004 01:47 PM

Wow. One shell with nerve gas.

That was the WMD bush was talkimg about - you see - now the whole war was justified! He wasn't lying after all!

Posted by: Nunya at May 17, 2004 02:09 PM

Well, two shells, Nunya, if you count the one with Mustard gas found last week.
When we find 100 more, what are you gonna say?

Posted by: Beth at May 17, 2004 03:39 PM

We have been there for well over a year already and havent found 100 of them. And even if we were to find 100 (which we did not yet) that is hardly a large stockpile.
And the shell is reportedly filled just recently, by insurgents. If that is the case, than us being there helped create the shell itself.

Posted by: NUNYA at May 17, 2004 03:51 PM

Arne is correct (I have some direct experience here, as an artilleryman and targeteer) the binary round does require "setback and spin" from firing to break the ampoules and mix. The reason there was little sarin found is because the chemicals did not mix properly.

The real question, Arne, Nunya, et. al., is whether these are one-offs, missed in Saddam's putative destruction of his pre-war arsenal of weapons, and just mixed in with other, conventional rounds - or are these buried caches (a form of disposal, I'm sure, to Saddam) that these guys have found.

The jury is still out on that - for both sides on the question.

Think that's unlikely? They find things like this every now and then at places where the US has handled spec weaps. For example, an amazing amount of stuff was just buried at Aberdeen Proving Grounds at the end of WWII that periodically pops up. Significant amounts. Same is true at Pacific sites from the WWII stockpiles established to present the Japanese with a credible threat of retaliation.

I don't follow the logic.

A - Bush claims there are WMD, B - We find none (or few), C - Bush was lying???

Makes more sense that if there aren't weapons, C would be that he was mistaken or misled by bad information. To jump to LYING indicates a bias on the part of the jumper, yes?

Posted by: Big Dan at May 17, 2004 07:44 PM

If Bush were a Democrat, they'd be foaming at the mouth to defend him.

This is partisanship -- plain and simple.

Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at May 17, 2004 07:50 PM

I like to be touched by men.

Posted by: Nunya at May 17, 2004 07:56 PM

Okay, Nunya has completely gone over the deep end.
One must wonder how his son feels about his daddy wanting to be touched by men? Eh?

If that one little WMD shell had been exploded 'properly' and 20 people were killed by Sarin, would Arne or Nunya feel any differently?

Just curious.

Posted by: Beth Donovan at May 17, 2004 08:47 PM

Rosemary -

Your blog, of course, and a great one...but just curious...

You haven't had the desire yet to just wipe out Nunya/Arne comments when they appear? I'm not really a big fan of censorship and I understand freedom of speech and all that, but honestly, comments like what appear above only detract from an otherwise logical debate. The asinine comments were humorous in the beginning months ago, but honestly what a major fucking pain in the ass he/she/it/they is/are/. Again, for what my HO is worth...

Posted by: Vickie at May 17, 2004 10:10 PM

Beth - I feel bad every day when our soldiers get killed for an unjust war that is being fought for nothing but profit.

Posted by: Nunya at May 17, 2004 10:40 PM

Vickie,

Thanks.

Yeah, I have had the urge and I have deleted some but I'm more inclined to allow my commenters a chance to vent on them. We all need a bag to punch once in a while.

It won't last much longer. As much as I love DogSnot - I won't let my blog get that far.

Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at May 17, 2004 11:23 PM

Nunya - this war is not being fought for profit - the fact that you immediately jump to that indicates to me that you just take whatever you read on DKOS or Atrios and go with it - have you no mind of your own? Are you incapable of doing research, looking at facts?

And then you talk about how sad you are that American Soldiers are killed - all of us are sad, but you know what - very few soldiers have been killed - during Vietnam, there were hundreds times more killed every year.

I know that I cannot change your mind, so I'd rather not waste my time trying to. Just let me say that you are flat out wrong. Show me proof that this war is being fought for profit, and I'll show you proof why you are wrong.

Are you sure that your name isn't numbnuts?

Posted by: Beth Donovan at May 18, 2004 07:49 AM

And Arne,

I don't believe there is an alter-arnie. I think you are just nuts.

Posted by: Beth Donovan at May 18, 2004 07:51 AM

Beth,
You don't think someone is going around posting as arnie? You are kidding, right? Go on over to dog sot where geoffrey/gordon do it all day long.

Posted by: Nunya at May 18, 2004 08:48 AM

Well, I still don't understand the logic (see previous "if A then B then C" post) and I and my ignorance would like one of you deep thinkers to please address it.

Posted by: Big Dan at May 18, 2004 09:20 AM

Blaster, a former EOD specialist and blogbuddy of mine, has a new take on the Sarin round.

Posted by: John of Argghhh! at May 18, 2004 12:38 PM

Arnie, first of all, I disagree with Vickie...I disagree with you on this issue we're discussing, but in no way do I put you in the same category with this cretin named nunya...I appreciate that you argue intelligently and you're obviously a grownup, sophomoric bed-wetting joke notwithstanding.

Your point about Saddam and the US in the 80s...you have a point, we chose sides in the Iran/Iraq war...but that in no way creates some sense that we're now disqualified from dealing with Iraq just because we had dealings with them...we were conducting trade with Japan and Germany in the 30s...should we have recused ourselves from that war because we got our hands dirty beforehand? Isn't that just a little naive? Or is it just one more in the endless series of rhetorical feints made by folks that just don't like this president? Isn't that what the Clinton haters did? Everything he did, including bombing Serbia into submission, the Clinton haters thought was just disgraceful...the "outrage" I hear now is just the same song, with different singers...I don't by what you're selling, Arne, it just comes across as partisanship, plain and simple..there is no high moral precedent you can fall back on.

And the news confirmed today that the shell IS exactly what I suspected...a chemical weapon. That question is closed. Whether or not it is just a misplaced stray, time will tell.

And don't think for once second that I think this is "good news"...some folks think this is some game of Gotcha...I don't...I fear for those troops and for those civilians...something in me hopes they don't find any more WMD...my deep fear is that the wrong people will find them, because they are indeed there...

Posted by: chris at May 18, 2004 02:31 PM

Well, it appears my stalkers Nunya and Arney have been getting a little OOC. Again, apologies to my dear Dark Queen.

"whew, Gordon, that was a good one...hey folks, chalk one up for Gordon"

Chris, you were duped. As you can see on several threads, either Arney or Nunya have posted on my behalf and Rose caught most.

"If Rosemary gets around to IP blocking, she will eliminate Gordon's nasty little forgeries."

I can smell the paranoia from across the net Arney. I have never posted here as you or Nunya, nor do I have any intentions to do so in the future. Rosemary has verified this before on several occasions upon checking IP's. Can you and Nunya/NeoCUNT honestly claim the same?

Granted, several bloggers have posted as you at DSD at one time or another, but not everytime you've cried "faux". Several times on our blog you claimed there was a "faux" Arne but when I checked IP's they were the same as yours. I'm not fooled by your clever bi-polar behavior of creating drama and debate by posting forgeries of yourself. You seem to feed on it just like you have on the recent Wedding Day in Mass post. I do like the twist though - you can be clever at times.

Besides, how would it benefit me to post as a "faux" anyhow? You two make enemies and assholes of yourselves where ever you go without my help. I don't doubt for one moment you have a loyal following. In short, get over yourself. Some ass pirate armed with google and a flair for the thesaurus doesn't matter enough to me to gain so much attention.

"As much as I love DogSnot - I won't let my blog get that far."

This is a hard call. Clearly we have a higher tolerance threshold than any blog I've ever visited. When you visit our site you know it's a bit tabloid, that's how we like it and so don't our regulars. We have fun and we make light of any topic. Now and then an asshat will emerge from nowhere, like Nunya or Arney. Our regulars tend to treat assholes - like assholes. Eventually they all go away but Arney and Nunya seem to enjoy the bitch slapping and keep coming back for more. At our site, like yours, we have liberals and conservatives shoulder to shoulder arguing topics like adults - with exception to Nunya and Arney who just can't seem to get along with anyone, including themselves.

The world wonders, when will Arney and Nunya show up and just try being civil for a change?

Posted by: Gordon the Magnificent at May 18, 2004 05:50 PM

Is it possible for Arney to ever communicate a message without a ratio of four posts to one? How can a person say so much yet convey so little is beyond me.

And you did it without google for a change! Bravo Arney! Bravo!

Posted by: Gordon the Magnificent at May 18, 2004 09:16 PM

Amazingly, I posted on DS in the catfish picture post - none of which was insulting, argument provoking, or anything. It was civil by anyones definition. Yet you will see that it is Gordon who posts some garbage about rest stops (he has a fascination for this subject).

Arne - it is pointless trying to lead these horses to water - they would rather die of thirst before they ever saw the ire of their ways.

Posted by: Nunya at May 19, 2004 09:07 AM

Nunya,
You're sharing only half truths and I addressed your civility as appropriate at the thread you referred to.

Arney,
Not all of us feel a driving need to write long winded and dull dissertations on every post or have to "tit for tat" everytime someone writes. I had my say, you had yours. If you want to hold a conversation with idle chatter about nothing than go to a fucking chatroom or get out of Mom's basement and go to a coffee shop.

Here's some advice, have a point when you comment. Quantity does not equate to quality.

Anyhow, your flair for google and the thesaurus tactics bore the ever loving Christ out of me.

Verbose. Loquacious. Effusive. Wordy.
