Skunk Spray Remover Recipe

It works!!!!

Hose off dog, then prepare mixture:

1 liter 3% Hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
2 tablespoons liq. dish soap

Mix it together in a big bowl and use it IMMEDIATELY. It will bubble like crazy and that is when you dump it on the dog or whatever is stinky. Scrub him down and rinse.

Voila, no more stinky dog! It also works on carpet for cat urine or any other serious stink.

Caution: Make only what you need. Don't save the excess, it will explode a bottle.

Regarding douches: diluted vinegar helps but it doesn't remove the smell completely.

That's the kids rocket recipe, or at least it is similar. Fill a bottle up with some vinegar, add baking soda, shake it up put it down and watch it blast off...oh, there is more to it than that!!!!!

I commented on my blog about your blog and tried to leave a track back. Hasn't shown up yet but I hope it does.

Glad your dog isn't so smelly anymore.

Thanks very much. I hope I never need it but if I do I'll say a little prayer of thanks for you.

Glad it worked for you.

i believe i will take exception to the implication in:

"It will bubble like crazy and that is when you dump it on the dog or whatever is stinky. Scrub him down and rinse."

not everything that is so stinky is masculine.

upon consideration, i suppose the masculine pronoun is the default; so, exception withdrawn.

Sorry but my dog is a boy.

Habit.

OTOH, men are stinkier than women naturally.

You are a fucking idiot, Rose. You don't put peroxide-backing soda mixture on a dog, moron! That is like putting oxy clean on your dog - when it dries, the "diluted" mixture re-solidifies and the dog will lick it off. It could kill him.

You should have taken the dog to the vet or a groomer and they would have dipped him in a solution that both works and is safe.

The vet said to do it, retard and you wash it off him.

Did you miss the rinse him off part?

You don't let it dry.

I worked with as an argicultural vet tech for aeveral years and one of the most common occurances were farm animlas, especially stable dogs, getting sprayed by skunks, or rolling around in horse shit. Since both horse shit, skunk spray all containt sulfur compounds, you use a solution that neutrilizes the sulfur base. While the peroxide and baking sode combintaion will do that, it is not safe (better change vets). Again, he could have gotten dipped, OR for the repeat offenders that I treated, I told them to just scrub the shit out of the dog with a coal tar shampoo (pentrax 5%). I hope to hell your dog doesnt go licking himself excessivley.

Sorry about the retard comment. Kneejerk response to being called a fucking idiot.

We were very careful and we washed him twice, after we treated him. We rinsed him very throughly. I'm a meticulous cleaner - trust me there is no residue.

I apologize for my rudeness too. Just make sure he doesn't start heaving or gets listless. If you rinsed him off even half well, there shouldn't be enough to kill him, but could make him sick. If you rinsed him off good, you should be in the clear. Just make sure you consult your vet before trying recommendations from the Net.

Will do.

Thanks, Nunya.

Rachel Ann:
"That's the kids rocket recipe, or at least it is similar."

Sounds like a science-project volcano from third grade to me (with a plasticine cone instead of the dog, obviously).

Probably...and red dye for lava. It is amazing what one can do with acids and bases.

Hows the dog today Rosmary?

Nunya, I'm surprised that Hydrogen peroxide is so posionous; I've heard it used in toothpastes before.

Posted by: Rachel Ann at July 6, 2004 03:19 AM

He's much better.

Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at July 6, 2004 09:09 AM

Rachel - it is used in such a diluted form in toothpaste that even if you DID swallow it, it would not harm you. The reason it foams up when it hits blood, is because the blood and the cells have an enyzyme called catalase. When the peroixed is mixed with that catalase, the h2o2 soltuion turns into water and oxygen gas. Damaged cells have an especially high level of catalase. Catalase can also exist along the digestive tract, espeically in the stomach and large intestine - so you see where the danger can be - and it doesnt take a large quanity of peroxide to cause a large amount of gas to build up - while stomaces and intestines are high expandable, they can rupture.
The biggest thing I worry about is the fact the peroxide doesn't breakdown easily like water does and can get into the blood stream causing blood poisoning. Even in small amounts, that can make a person or animal sick. But, I am not a human or animal doctor or a bio-chemist, so I am not 100% sure.

sorry for the long expliantion
