August 06, 2004The Malkin Media Diversity TestMichelle Malkin has a test for the media. How diverse are you?
No, I have voted for many Democrats. 2. I think my taxes are too high. Yes, totallly. 3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment. Yes, I supported the impeachment BUT I also was pleased that he was not convicted. The impeachment was deserved, as was the acquittal. 4. I voted for President Bush in 2000. Naturally. 5. I am a gun owner. Does a 12 gauge count? 6. I support school voucher programs. Yes. 7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools. Yes, if it's done without parental permission. 8. I oppose bilingual education. I oppose children not learning English if they don't know it. I think all children should be taught the basics in English. I also believe teaching foreign language is important. 9. I oppose gay marriage. Nope. I support it. 10. I want Social Security privatized. Hell yeah! 11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense. Yes, certainly. Sorry Dean... 12. I shop at Wal-Mart. Yes, but I prefer Target. 13. I enjoy talk radio. Yes. But I still love hearing the oldies like Led Zepplin, ZZ Top and Aerosmith too! 14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase "undocumented person" for "illegal alien." YES!!! 15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive. Yes. 16. I eat meat. Dude, my slavic heritage demands that I eat meat. I also eat veggies... fish is a veggie, right? 17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty. Yes. 18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured. I woke up after 2 hours sleep to the news. I wish they'd capture people mid-week, doing so after bar-night with the girls is just mean... 19. I cry when I hear "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood. Yes. I know...I'm lame. 20. I don't believe the New York Times. Sure I believe them. I also believe in Santa Clause, the Toothfairy and the Easter Bunny. The Great Pumpkin is a myth... Oh my... how intriguing! My answers were almost identical to yours!! How did I get to be this old and not realize I'm a conservative?! :) Posted by: Lachlan at August 6, 2004 10:44 AMMy conversion was late too! I spent an entire year in denial... ;-) Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at August 6, 2004 10:57 AMI also eat veggies... fish is a veggie, right? Uh, no. Corn chips are a veggie. Posted by: Ara Rubyan at August 6, 2004 10:57 AMOh, that works! I knew I ate veggies! Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at August 6, 2004 11:07 AM1. More often than not Rose: Btw, I only got a 25: My yes votes? Glad you asked: 11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense. (don't ask/don't tell, besides, it's unavoidable) I have a lawyerly nuanced answer for 17, I agreed with both juries, OJ was unconvictable therefore not "guilty," but he did DO it, so he certainly was liable. Posted by: Mark Adams at August 6, 2004 12:20 PM"Yes, I supported the impeachment BUT I also was pleased that he was not convicted. The impeachment was deserved, as was the acquittal." Huh? Posted by: Xrlq at August 6, 2004 12:28 PMHad Clinton been convicted and removed from office - we'd be hailing my worst nightmare - President Gore. Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at August 6, 2004 12:33 PMXrlq, I think my comment explained it. Clinton deserved the rebuke of impeachment, and the mark it would make on the historical account of his Presidency, but did not deserve to be removed from office. Not to mention, it would have given Al Gore the benefit of incumbency in running for President, and after watching his shrill shrieking transformation into Mr Hyde, am EXTREMELY thankful he was not POTUS on 9/11. We wouldnt have had 7 minutes of calm waiting, we'd have likely had twenty minutes of ballistic arcing, wherever they may land. The man is a loose cannon on deck. Posted by: John Irving at August 6, 2004 12:35 PM1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life. I have voted for Democrats, for Republicans, for Libertarians, and for Independents. 2. I think my taxes are too high. I think taxes on the people above me are too high. 3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment. I opposed his impeachment for adulterous sex. For that, he deserved impoundment by Hillary. I think he should have been impeached for selling military secrets to Communist China. 4. I voted for President Bush in 2000. Over Gore, Nader, and Buchanan, yes. Over Kerry, yes again. 5. I am a gun owner. Yes. Proudly. 6. I support school voucher programs. Yes, I do. 7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools. Sex is a mystery and a sacrament, and therefore ideally condoms should be distributed only in the holy temples of the Gods and the Goddesses. Schools should teach reading, writing, math, science, geography, history, and the classics of Western literature. 8. I oppose bilingual education. Yes. 9. I oppose gay marriage. Absolutely. Not. Marriage is the sacred context of total commitment within which all sex, homosexual and heterosexual, should take place. Sex is holy, including both manly sex and the ecstatic tribadic embrace of two women. 10. I want Social Security privatized. Yes. 11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense. We need ideological profiling. Terrorists and those suspected of terrorist activities or associations should not be allowed into this country, much less on our airplanes. Nobody from Saudi Arabia should ever be allowed to set foot on American soil unless they are fleeing from that center of all Muslim tyranny and will join us in fighting it. There is no Constitutional right to immigrate into this or any other country. We are at War. 12. I shop at Wal-Mart. There isn't a Wal-Mart anywhere near where I live. I shop at Larry's Market (which includes a fine restaurant), at the Crossroads shopping mall, and at Bellevue Square. 13. I enjoy talk radio. I don't find much time to listen to radio. I'm too busy reading blogs and books. I like G. Gordon Liddy. Too bad Leonard Peikoff isn't broadcasting any more. He was the best ever. 14. I am annoyed when news editors substitute the phrase "undocumented person" for "illegal alien." Yes, I am. They should be called criminal aliens instead, especially if they are terrorists. 15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive. No, I do not. If anything, I find Political Correctness offensive. 16. I eat meat. Yes, I do. Like lions, eagles, and other beasts and birds of prey, I enjoy feasting on the flesh of slain animals. I think it's great. 17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty. He's probably guilty as Hell. However, I support our system of trial by jury. If jury verdicts, Supreme Court decisions, or elections don't go my way, I don't demand a recount. 18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured. Yes! Dean already said everything there is to say about that. 19. I cry when I hear "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood. Yes! 20. I don't believe the New York Times. I believe the Weekly World News as much as I believe what was once a great newspaper. I often think that only the John Birch Society, the Ayn Rand Institute, and Alain de Benoist are the only people who understand what's going on in this world. If a guy's guilty, convict him. If he's innocent, don't try him in the first place. Drawing a distinction between the two is like saying "I think O.J. deserved the rebuke of a criminal trial, but I also think it's a good thing he was acquitted in the end." Does anyone actually believe that? Posted by: Xrlq at August 6, 2004 12:49 PMxrlq: "If a guy's guilty, convict him. If he's innocent, don't try him in the first place." And the jury's there for what purpose? Ballast? Posted by: Jheka at August 6, 2004 01:21 PM1. I have never voted for a Democrat in my life. I can't say that and, even if I do not vote for any Dems this year, in 2006, unless a miracle happens and somehow we get a better Republican for Senate on that year's November ballot, I most certainly will vote for another Dem. The only other federal level Dem I ever voted for was in the 2000 Senatorial race. I see a pattern there. 2. I think my taxes are too high. Yes, totallly. People keep talking about the income tax. What about all of the hidden taxes that people ignore? How much of gasoline prices is taxes? What of the cost of excessive regulation? Is this not another tax? I quite agree. 3. I supported Bill Clinton's impeachment. Impeachment is merely the equivalent of an indictment. Was he wrongly indicted? For the reasons, they gave, I would say so. 4. I voted for President Bush in 2000. Yes, I doubt if I shall do so a second time. 5. I am a gun owner. Naturally! 6. I support school voucher programs. Yes. 7. I oppose condom distribution in public schools. "Yes, if it's done without parental permission." I agree with Her Majesty there. 8. I oppose bilingual education. "I oppose children not learning English if they don't know it. I think all children should be taught the basics in English. I also believe teaching foreign language is important." Her Majesty has a good point. There are different obstacles and challenges to deal with when the children are of parents who cannot speak English. The goal must be to enable them to speak English. The methods would be different for such children than those who hear English at home. 9. I oppose gay marriage. No. I support it. 10. I want Social Security privatized. It should be a turned into a program that is administered by the private sector according to market principles. 11. I believe racial profiling at airports is common sense. "We need ideological profiling. Terrorists and those suspected of terrorist activities or associations should not be allowed into this country, much less on our airplanes." Excellent point, Steven Malcolm Anderson! Are we going to stop some Coptic Orthodox priest from entering, but let someone like the shoe bomber in? It is a lazy substitute that appears to give security without actually doing so. 12. I shop at Wal-Mart. Actually, Your Majesty, I do prefer Target. 13. I enjoy talk radio. Yes. There are a couple I like to listen to. 15. I do not believe the phrase "a chink in the armor" is offensive. Yes. 16. I eat meat. "Dude, my slavic heritage demands that I eat meat. I also eat veggies... fish is a veggie, right?" Her Majesty is quite right. However, fish is not a veggie. Perogies are veggies, so I suppose I actually eat veggies. 17. I believe O.J. Simpson was guilty. Yes. 18. I cheered when I learned that Saddam Hussein had been captured. Exactly! 19. I cry when I hear "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood. I will refrain from answering this one! ;-) 20. I don't believe the New York Times. It is a reliably consistent perspective on the world and the events therein. Posted by: Edmond the Libertarian at August 6, 2004 01:29 PMI love diversity. For instance, I read Dean on Dean's World. Then, for a change, I read Dean on Mr. E Poet's site. Then, when I'm feeling nutty, I come here. And read Dean. Please kill me. Posted by: Big Dan at August 6, 2004 03:16 PMYour Majesty, Queen of All Evil, what pray tell, did I score, I humbly beseech thee? Posted by: Edmond the Libertarian at August 6, 2004 04:02 PM5 points for every yes... Posted by: Rosemary the Queen of All Evil at August 6, 2004 04:45 PMHey, I got a 30!!! That's about as conservative as I'm ever going to score. But while we're stringing up Clinton, motherfuckers that sold weapons to Iraq and Iran in the last 30 years need to be serving some serious hard time. Oh wait, that'd be alot of the current Bush Administration. Christ Steven, thinking that Clinton sold nuclear secrets to the Chinese!! BTW, if you shop at Walmart, you ARE supporting the People's Republic of China. I have no problem with China - they aren't a threat to our security. I still think this current Bush should be impeached for the Iraq war and the utter FAILURE to protect our nation's chemical and nuclear energy plants. Did I mention that I scored a 30? Posted by: Tim the Soldier at August 6, 2004 05:11 PMI got a 70%! Wow! I am more diverse than I thought! I passed the diversity test! Posted by: Edmond the Libertarian at August 6, 2004 05:41 PMTim, if we were to go after the people who armed Iraq, we would be declaring war on the French, as they came number two only to the USSR, and we already defeated them. As for the defense of this nations chemical and nuclear energy plants, the vast number of successful attacks against them since 9/11 are certainly demonstrative of the validity of your viewpoint. "I have no problem with China - they aren't a threat to our security." Yet. Posted by: jane m at August 6, 2004 06:27 PMJane M: Yet. In retort, I'll paraphrase John Irving: Which one of you apologists want to change your tune? "Sorry Tim, I respect your service, but am realy glad you're not an officer or someone in a position of responsibility." That may be the most insulting thing I've ever read personally concerning me. Who do you think gets the job done in the military? Sergeants make shit happen! Enlisted Soldiers perform the task of winning wars, and I train enlisted Soldiers everyday of my life!! And I don't discuss my political opinions and beliefs with them, nor do I question the orders (even the stupid ones) I receive from officers. In the next 5 or so years I will become a Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army, and I will faithfully serve every President that our country elects. I thought these forums were a place we could discuss ideas, even highly opinionated ones, without stabbing each other in the back. I don't mind if you call me crazy, or a left-wing nutjob, but don't EVER fucking say anything like that again! Posted by: Tim the Soldier at August 6, 2004 08:08 PMI admire Tim the Soldier. Dear Tim: I don't care if you call me crazy or a right-wing nutjob (which I am), you're a hero in my book. Don't ever forget that. I salute you. Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson the Lesbian-worshipping gun-loving selfish aesthete at August 6, 2004 08:31 PMI thank you, Tim the Soldier, for keeping my ass safe all these years. You are right. It is the non-commissioned officers who do the training of individual soldiers. They are the ones on the actual battlefield. They are the ones who better be doing their job correctly. These sargeants you speak of, I doubt if there are any perfumed princes amongst them, am I correct? How many of those 20 year sargeants know a hell of a lot more than some arrogant 2nd Lieutenant who thinks he's hot shit, but does not know a damn thing? Once again, I commend you! Posted by: Edmond the Libertarian at August 6, 2004 08:32 PMThanks guys. jane m. I read an interesting article about what is happening in China and India with regards to the male/female ratio. It seems that in about 15 to 25 years we are going to see a large group of unmarried men in both countries holding political power. I can't think of anything more dangerous than having the two most populous countries being run by sexually frustrated (angry?) men. These will be men, for all practical purposes, that won't have much in the way of family ties therefore, not much to lose if a war breaks out. See, being gay would be a perfect sociological/biological solution in both those countries. Posted by: Tim the Soldier at August 6, 2004 08:47 PMTim I salute for your service as well. I'm a big fan of the US military. Guys like you make me proud, like Lee Greenwood, to be an American. I just didn't realize we had such smart soldiers. grin (Wow. CSM! Wow) Anyway about China. I don't expect to see China a real problem in my lifetime (I'm old guys. My FIRST husband went to Viet Nam (USAF) in 1965.)but as China becomes a world economic power (other Asian countries will as well in time)we will either have to make "friends" with them or prepare to face our next military rival. Slowly but inexorably, they are seeking serious weaponry. As they prosper, we will be a target in time for them. No, I don't know this for a fact. I have a brain and an imagination. This seems a logical turn of events in time - say mid to late 21st century. I'm just saying. Forget about Europe. Their finished.
