FMA Loses Again

The House voted on the FMA and got a slim majority. They needed 2/3rds and they weren't even close.

Good.

It is long past time to give it up guys. The FMA is losing support everyday and continuing with this battle just makes you look foolish.

I've mentioned before that one of my favorite commenters on Dean's World is the very ornery, old Arnold Harris. I adore him and his blunt prose. I am shocked and more than a little pleased by this Arnold Harris comment made regarding the FMA at Dean's...

I totally agree with Arnold Harris. I am very pleased to see him take this position. I like him more and more all the time. He is my favorite commenter in Dean's World. Just as Edmond the Libertarian is my favorite commenter here. Just as Jeanine Ring (who now runs Salon Total Freedom) was my favorite commenter in Arthur Silber's Light of Reason or just about any other blog.

Anyway: Good riddance to the FMA!

Oh Queen, I am a regular reader of your blog and have been since I witnessed your first debate on Iron Blog (where you are sorely missed, by the way).

I have a great sense of fairness. I think I've read somewhere "[...] that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

I differ greatly with the opinion of my brother, Jimmie (who debated against Jay Bullock on Gay Marriage on IB). If you don't remember his position, revisit that debate. My opinion, as a homosexual, should be obvious.

I've had the honor of being coupled to a wonderful guy for the past five years or so. During that same time frame, I have seen new marriages form and fail. And each time I've wondered to myself, "What makes these relationships more special, more sacred than mine? Why do these relationships that can't last more than a few months be treated with more respect and dignity than mine?"

Arnold and Max are new heroes to me for showing that these other relationships aren't.

I'm glad to know that you are here. I'm glad that you appreciate my wit or my lunacy. Either one.

Love is love and love between two consenting adults should be respected because love is a special thing. The thing I am proudest of is that Arnold is 70 and only a few months ago, his views were different. Very different. He is a hero to me because he allowed himself time to consider and really think about the issue. Changing your mind isn't easy and I'm thrilled that he has.

We are making strides, one person at a time. Your day will come. Believe it.

Don't pat yourself on the back so fast, Rosemary. We haven't seen the results on society yet. The liberals in the 60s were eager to congratulate themselves for the War on Poverty.

There is no comparison whatsoever between homosexual marriage and LBJ's "War on Poverty". The Queen of All Evil, if you haven't noticed, is a conservative, not a liberal (certainly not a "liberal" in the contemporary sense). Nor has Arnold Harris ever been called a liberal. Nor, I think, am I considered a liberal by most of the commenters here. By the way, I'm for a War on Poverty, i.e., wealth and jobs created by free enterprise.

Arnold Harris is right. And not only about this but about nearly everything else, too. I have always respected him. His stand on homosexual marriage is totally consistent with his individualist premises and his rock-ribbed integrity.
