Death Watch Poll

From Fox News:

On news that Arafat's health was worsening, scores of top Palestinian officials descended on the sandbagged, partially demolished Ramallah compound where he has been confined for 2 1/2 years.
...
Israeli security officials said Arafat's wife, Suha, who lives in France with their young daughter, was expected to arrive Thursday. The Jordanian doctors were also due Thursday.

So we have a death watch.

I'm going with Thursday, October 28, 2004 12 Noon EST.

The betting is now open...

Any takers?

Update: He's still alive. So my hopeful prediction is toast. I will repredict more reasonably and say Devil's Night - Oct 30th. That seems more appropriate.

Put me down for Friday the 29th @ 2:37AM!

Posted by: Monkey at October 27, 2004 11:06 PM

There's the October surprise.

Posted by: jane m at October 27, 2004 11:07 PM

He is already dead. When they say he doesn't need to go to the hospital, they mean it. When you are dead it doesn't matter where you are.

Posted by: FH at October 27, 2004 11:12 PM

I say he lingers 'til Friday morning, around 9:00.

Then the next question: how long before they find a way to blame Israel?

Posted by: Dean Esmay at October 27, 2004 11:19 PM

if they can keep the leaders of Hamas away until Thursday.

Thursday.

What a shame , the Republican Party of Florida just sent me a slick mailer declaring, Arafat has endorsed Kerry.

Posted by: WOOF at October 28, 2004 12:04 AM

The sooner he goes off to his final reward, the better as far as I'm concerned. I hate his guts. Harsh, I know. That's the way I am.

And I'm in a _good_ mood tonight. And there was a lunar eclipse tonight.

That bastard will never die. He'll be like Castro and just keep ticking and ticking and....

OK, I'm going for 8:00am (Eastern) on Halloween...the damned vampire!

Posted by: Skerdog at October 28, 2004 12:30 AM

7:47am today (10-28-04)

Posted by: JonB at October 28, 2004 12:50 AM

Umm, can I wager on the sooner the better?

Posted by: Rhianna at October 28, 2004 04:13 AM

Whilst Mrs. Arafat returns from her villa in La France to visit her beloved Yasser as he ermmhh-- cough--cough recovers from another case of the
flu, wouldn't it be a wonderful time to arrest her big rear end and throw her in jail until she gives all the money back that Yasser swindled from USA ?

Posted by: Catch 22 at October 28, 2004 08:48 AM

I am hoping sometime this weekend for a couple reasons:
1. So his family can see him for what he really has always been, a sick, weak, and withered man.
2. So I can pop the top of a cold one and enjoy his demise.

What too soon?

Posted by: James Doney at October 28, 2004 11:36 AM

I'm bummed. Now the news is that he was only unconscious for 10 minutes. What's up with that?
I lose heart too easily.

Posted by: jane m at October 28, 2004 12:39 PM

Well, I was only wrong by A LOT.

If I couldn't be right there, I'll just join with Rhianna and vote for "The sooner the better"

Posted by: JonB at October 28, 2004 01:42 PM

Looks like he's going to France for medical treatment. France has great doctors. He'll probably be around for a lot longer. arrgghh. bummer.

Posted by: jane m at October 28, 2004 02:35 PM

Dean,

I believe the Jooooooo Death Ray has finally struck!! :-)

Posted by: Michael Demmons at October 28, 2004 02:37 PM

France has great doctors, Jane? Do they hide them in a bunker until visiting terrorist leaders need them?

Posted by: John Irving at October 28, 2004 02:43 PM

I’m betting that he and Castro will jointly get robotic bodies to better stymie the wrath of a just deity. It’s what evil dictators do...

Posted by: Andrew Cory at October 28, 2004 02:59 PM

Yeah, they do. And in research they are highly regarded as well. French researchers were actually the first to identify and isolate the HIV in the 80s. No doubt they do save the best medics for their famous foreign patients.

Now I'm not saying their medical management system is great...but they got good doctors if you don't get sick in August.

The only prediction I care about is when Palestinian lands will no longer be occupied.

I do, however, look forward to someone other than Arafat leading the Palestinians.

Posted by: Joel Thomas at October 28, 2004 04:03 PM

The Johns must be hoping it happens just before election day. Clearly, Arafat's blood disorder could have been prevented if only Bush had done more for stem cell research.

Posted by: Dave at October 28, 2004 05:53 PM

Arafish will croak on November 23rd, 2004. Thus have I willed it and thus it shall be.

Posted by: Sam at October 28, 2004 08:39 PM

The pendulum swings back to hope as now they are mentioning leukemia.

Posted by: jane m at October 29, 2004 09:42 AM

I'd like to throw a block party when that murdering terrorist scum, and candidate for the ugliest shit-face on this planet, finally kicks the bucket and goes down to his eternal "reward" (in Hell). Harsh, I know. That's the way I am.

Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson the Lesbian-worshipping gun-loving selfish aesthete at October 30, 2004 01:39 AM

Hey, lucky for Arafat he didn't get sick in August. He'd have a tough time finding a French doctor to treat him.

Posted by: Dave in Texas at October 30, 2004 03:42 PM

He can't die soon enough for me.
Then the real fun begins, the battle to succeed him.

Posted by: BMC at October 30, 2004 07:40 PM

"candidate for the ugliest shit-face on this planet"

HA! I remember one night when I was in my mid-teens while my family and I were watching the late night news and my mother said this about Arafat. She said "I'm sorry for saying this, but who would want to kiss such an ugly man?" My father responded, "His wife".

Posted by: marko at October 30, 2004 07:53 PM

Looks like he's not going to go away soon enough.

"Sources told CNN that Arafat, 75, is not in complete control of his mental faculties and he can't make important decisions or communicate coherently"

Marko, from your link. Perhaps, if he lives, he'll remain in la-la land indefinitely and even sweeter form of punishment than death. heh.

Posted by: jane m at October 30, 2004 11:11 PM

Jane, then justice will be served. :)
