Some very disturbing scenarios are being predicted for New Orleans in the aftermath of this storm. All the dikes and levees built around it to keep the Mississippi out give the terrain the shape of a big soup bowl, it seems and once that nasty flood water flows in, there is no way for it to drain out. We could have a bunch of people without homes for a long time.

As it turns out, my family, friends, and co-workers in Baton Rouge and New Orleans seem to have pulled through this OK.
