Harriet Miers did the right thing. I had nothing against her either, just that I didn't think she was qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. There's only room for 9 people there out of the whole population.

Batten down the hatches.

P.S. Is Bush that much of a pussy that he caved to the likes of David Frum and George Will? I think not. I think he caved because no one was willing to fight FOR Harriet Miers (and, by extension, Bush himself).

Like Truman said, if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.

How did Bush cave? She withdrew her nomination. Frist called the POTUS and told him he couldn't guarantee him the votes. So how is that caving?
Caving would have been listening to the left.

He caved by nominating Miers in the first place. Having her withdraw was fixing a mistake not caving.

He's George W. Bush. Resolute. Determined. He stays the course. He doesn't read polls. He doesn't listen to cry-baby whiners. Did I mention he's resolute? Right. Look at how he walks, for crying out loud! He's steely-eyed. Convinced. Plain-spoken. Straightforward. Straight ahead. Straight down the line. Straight and narrow. Straight shooter. Straight.

So... movement conservatives twisted his arm ...and he folded like a $2 suitcase.

What gives?

So you admit he listened to his base of voters that are the same people that will be voting in 06' and 08'? You mean he caved into his party?

Ara likes to spin it. Bush tried to avoid a battle by listening to Harry Reid. That was a mistake because he felt weak. It's all good now.

An excellent description of Howard Roark or John Galt. Barry Goldwater came close, as did Goldwater's protege, Ronald Reagan. I never confused George W. Bush with either. I only knew that he was closer to that than John Kerry. And Kerry would have very likely have given us Cass Sunstein, the Left's Robert Bork.

Rosemary:

A resolute and determined leader would have led, instead of following.

Instead, some pipsqueak from the Family Research Council pushed the President of the United States around like he was a 90-pound weakling.

Not a pretty sight.
