Weirdness

When I woke up Tuesday morning my left wrist was killing me. I didn't injure it the day before, I wasn't sure why I was in pain. My first thought was that I must have slept on it and it was stiff because of that. By Tuesday night it was obviously swollen and bending it hurt like heck. Wednesday morning it was black and blue with patches red. It is really looking ugly now but it doesn't hurt that bad.

I have no idea how it happened, I don't drink or do drugs and my memory is rock solid.

Could I have sprained it by sleeping on it? Has this or something like it ever happened to you?

I once slept "funny" and woke up with my whole left side in muscle spasms from having pulled the muscles in my shoulder, back, and side. It was days before I could move my arm without pain.

The best I can figure is that during a nightmare I moved quickly and overstrechted the muscle group. I thought I had dislocated my shoulder when I woke up, but the stiffness in the following days was definitely muscle strain.

I recommend a gin and tonic - stricly for medicinal purposes - to ease the pain

If the swelling doesn't go down, please have it checked out. You may have a pinched nerve or even a blood clot cutting off circulation.

It's a little something called "the aging process," you may have to get used to it ;-)

I think not. I've woken up with a sore neck/shoulder from "sleeping too hard."

The weird bruising is something more extreme.

You should have it checked out Rose.

Hhhhmmmm, I'd have said a bite of some type with the color change and swelling. I'd advise you to have it checked out too. It could be an indication of something far worse than sleeping on it wrong.

See a doctor. It could be an infection due to some kind of bite or something that got into a scratch.

And this is where I kick into first aid mode. Did the whole wrist hurt, or was it a burning pain that shot into the forearm? When it was swollen and hurting, did you hear or have the sensation of creaking when you moved your arm? Were you doing any kind of activity with that hand that you aren't used to? Is the bruising in any particular area?

And yes, you should go to a clinic just to be sure that it isn't a sign of something that might repeat or get worse.

A couple of times I've wrenched a knee, no idea how or exactly when it happened— no bruising, though. The knee is a dickens, because it can take weeks to recuperate. Talking with other people, I find the mysterious knee wrench is a not uncommon phenomenon.

A few months ago, I also found my left foot sore, feeling wrenched, with no obvious cause or precipitating incident; there was some bruising on the insole and inside of the ankle. This passed over in just a couple of days. My left foot is my "bad ankle" foot, tore the ankle up at age 15 and it never healed properly: foot has a tendency to "land stupid" when I'm walking and cause mishaps, etc. But in this instance I couldn't remember anything that caused the wrenching.

Sounds like a spider bite to me. The recluse spider bite gives off those same symptoms.

I agree with the spider bite theory.

The Brown Recluse is pretty poisonous, though, so it was probably a less virulent type.
