Hamas Wins Big In Palestinian Elections
Pro-Israeli liberal [no, really I swear, it's not just an oxymoron] blames Bush.
I can't wait to hear how this is Bush's fault. Anyone want to guess?

It was going to be (you should excuse the phrase) "a domino effect."
As if.
In reality, we're not even committed to democracy in Iraq let alone anywhere else.
Wrap your head around this: an "election" doesn't make you a democracy. It matters what you vote for. If Islamic extremists take power in Iraq, if terrorists take power in "Palestine," that isn't democracy.
Come on! History shows that plenty of heinous dictators have won elections.
How many times do I have to say it -- don't watch what Bush says, watch what he does. And, in this case, he didn't do jack.
I know that you don't agree with the Libs about Israel and, to me, that is very much to your credit. It's one of the reasons I really respect you and your opinions. It may not seem that way sometimes but I really truly do.
How many times do I have to say it -- don't watch what Bush says, watch what he does. And, in this case, he didn't do jack.
Bush has been a huge supporter of Israel and I believe in my gut that he won't accept Hamas as a political opponent unless they do a major reform on policy. The freedom on the march bit is a hope more than anything else. I don't think that anyone expected to see Palestinians or any arab change their mind on the Israel question this quick. The hatred for Israel is so deep, sadly I'm not sure that will change in my lifetime.
I believe that we are committed to democracy in Iraq and in the greater ME, I'm just not sure when or if we'll ever get it. Does that mean we should give up? Some may say yes but I say no. If we give up on spreading democracy, we might as well give up on Israel. I'm not prepared to support that, ever.
And no, I don't think we should give up in the ME. I just think we need a better, smarter, alternative to Bush. Come on -- after 5 years of George W. Bush, "Dick" Cheney, Colin Powell, Condi Rice and Donald Rumsfeld, we end up with Hamas in charge? What is that??
I don't know.
History might eventually figure out what Bush was doing. But from here, it's all pretty ridiculous. For some reason, Bush scrambled the deck after Afghansitan. Instead of Saudi Arabia (or Iran! or N. Korea!) he went for Iraq. A tragic miscalculation? Hubris? Cutting corners to posture as a wartime president? Who knows. I keep saying the same thing over and over (maybe I should make it an acronym): Don't watch what Bush says, watch what he does. [DWWBSWWHD]
Bush has been a huge supporter of Israel
Yes. Well. DWWBSWWHD.
P.S. And before anyone says he is "better than the Democrats" please understand that it doesn't cut much mustard with me.
I'd like to see Bush stop Congress from allocating aid money to the Palestinians, because if we continue it would be supporting terrorists.
But you're assuming Congress has some semblance of a will to exercise it's Constitutional authority.
Gone are the days!
