Smell and memory are closely linked in the brain. Smell is processed very near to where memory is handled, and there are strong connections between the two areas. This is especially true of emotional memories.

Yes. I can't stand the smell of Calvin Klein's Obsession. Everytime I smell it reminds me of my older sister's funeral, her funeral was 2 weeks before my 16th birthday. Something they put on her, either the make up or some preservative smells just like Obsession. Horrible flashback to have at a party.

Yup, I opened up an old tent that I used to camp in as a kid, and got swept back in time. Same thing happened to me once when I entered a market that specialized in West Indian foodstuffs (I grew up in the W.I.)

Like having a time machine...

When I was in college, I'd hang around my art-school friends only to be reminded that the smell of oil paint took me back to my pre-school years when my mother was taking a correspondence course in ... oil painting.

Hhhhmmm, I have flashbacks of my Mimi every time I smell "Wind Song" perfume. I despise the scent (too sickeningly sweet for my tastes) myself, but it always makes me feel loved and safe when I smell it. I keep a container of it around the house just for that reason.

Hubby's sweaty shirts do that for me too. Everytime he goes TDY he leaves me one. I sleep with it.

The kids got ahold of his cologne (that he NEVER wears) and doused our bed in it during this last TDY. I wouldn't change the sheets, it reminded me of him and so I slept with them doused in cologne for several days.

Big Red soda and Dr. Pepper take me back to my childhood. Add in a Watchamacallit and I'm in little kid heaven. :D

What makes us so great as a country is not our economic, political, or military strength, it's our ability to mass produce the yummiest candy bars and snack foods in the known universe. I'm down with the Watchamacallit candy bars, and Nutrageous is too good to even try and describe.

I'm a big fan of Land's End Hyde Park dress shirts. I love them!

And our T-shirts (even if they are made in Guatemala and Bangladesh).
