Krzysztof Kieslowski made some films that were done in French but he was born, raised and lived until he died in Poland. Here is his bio. The man was Polish and don't you forget it. I also agree with you about "Jean De Florette" great film and anyone that watched dubbed rather than subtitled really missed out.

Never watch a dubbed movie if you can help it. German is about the only language that can be dubbed into english without completely killing the film. However, the old kung-fu movies are hilarious when dubbed into english.

And yes, I know he was Polish. I've even heard that he didn't even speak french that well despite the fact that his best films were in french.

Dubbed films make me insane, but I will agree: films like Das Boot are watchable when dubbed. Still better with subtitles though.

I also have seen some Japanese cartoons which are dubbed which are okay. Probably because most Japanese cartoons don't try to synch up the voice with the mouth anyway. Even still, many such cartoons obviously lose something this way.

Yes, "Spirited Away" is still great dubbed. There's always the exception, but you read my mind about "Das Boot." That was the very film I was thinking of when discussing dubbing from german into english. What I like about "Wings of Desire" aside from the fact that it's how "City of Angels" came up with its premise, is that it stars Peter Faulk as Peter Faulk. I guess Faulk is the 70s version of David Hasslehoff in Germany.

I totally AGREE!!!! I laughed so hard once that I swear I pissed myself and I was thankful that it happened at home.

Oh Lord please no dubbing. I'd rather read the subtitles than hear bad B actors trying to synch up their voices with the Asian cab driver guy who talks too fast.

Please, please, please. I can read. Let me.

I think Woody Allen did a film way-back called "What's Up Tiger Lily" by intentionally dubbing over with the wrong translation. Now that is a movie that would make me piss my underwear...if I actually wore any.
