Rosemary, I'm sorry, but I'm not picking up anything of a slavic nature. I'm not even sure those languages even have a similar root. Interestingly enough, Korean and Finnish have the same root. How that happened I don't know.
Dutch has always sounded "English meets German" to me. It pretty much is. We all share a same linguistic mother tongue (High or Old German), not including Proto-Indo-European.
As for the slavic nature - many European languages of Germanic or slavic decent sound like that to me. Ever heard a Slovenian speak? ;)

I speak German, Polish and Russian are outside my abilities. Russian specifically for the cyrillic alphabet - my mind just sees symbols, not letters. Same for Greek. I can read and understand French but I can't speak it.
Well, you've proved you're not a uni-lingual standard American. I assume you're teaching the boys Polish (if not others) so they'll be more than the typical American too. :D
