A virus could be a factor in some obesity cases.
A team at Louisiana's Pennington Center found that a common virus could cause stem cells to change into fat cells in lab experiments.
This is very interesting. Of course, we will hear many scientists saying that obesity is calories in and calories spent, blah, blah, blah. Sure it is, for some people. But if some people have more fat cells due to this virus then they will be more prone to getting fat than a normal person. I've seen some really thin people eat enormous amounts of food and they stay thin, not exercise junkies either. I've always wondered why some people were just thin and others no matter what they did stayed fat. I'm not talking about people that eat boxes of Twinkies, I'm talking about people that eat less than normal, exercise regularly just to maintain their weight. There are plenty of people that struggle to keep from getting fatter because getting thin is just not in their cards. I'd love to see those people find out that there is something preventing them from getting thin.
I don't see this possible virus as a cure for all obesity because I don't believe all obesity is "viral". I'm certain that most obesity is self-inflicted. Most but not all and those that are really struggling, really trying to get healthy despite it all, for those people I hope this virus exists and can be treated.

While I agree there will be the 'pooh pooh'ers, humanity comes in such a gamut of types why would our genes and mutations be uniform? I also agree most obesity is caused by the person who suffers from it - over eating, not exercising, bad habits in general. Thus this possible virus won't 'cure' them, but there may be hope for some people. It'll be interesting to keep an eye on none the less.
