When Princess Diana died. I was 8 and a half months pregnant with Jacob. Dean and I just moved into our new house and the news just stunned me. I was a young girl that woke up very early in the morning to watch Lady Di marry Prince Charles. I was always fascinated and in awe of the Princess. I took her side when the divorce happened and when she died I just cried and cried. I watched her funeral and I will never forget seeing the young Princes walk behind the casket. I mourned her for myself and for those two young boys.
I Remember Where I Was...

Personally, I find it rather odd, America's fascination with the woman.
And I've never understood why anyone was fascinated with the British royals.
Possibly it ties in with the fairy princess mythos?
America's fascination is nothing compared to Europe's. I was working in Antwerp, Belgium at the time of her death and it was the strangest thing I've ever experienced. Everything stopped (except the office work). Restaurants were closed, my dry cleaner (which had some of my clothes at the time) closed for the entire week, regular mom &pop stores were closed. The streets, after work, were mostly empty of pedestrians. The British embassy in Brussels was covered in flowers and people waited hours to sign a memorial book. From the news I watched at the time, it was clear that neither Antwerp in particular nor Belgium as a whole were at all exceptional in their reaction.
Or give me two weeks notice before you do.
