In the last couple of years, one of the most surreal things I've seen in the bloggosphere is watching Iraq war supporters saying that Buckley had become a leftist because he did not support the war.

Bizarre times. I'm sad to see Buckley's departure. An infuriating man at times, but eminently respectable.

Not for me.

People forget that Buckley was against racial integration on the grounds that he felt it was "government coercion" and he was against that.

This, from a guy who could get a sandwich from any lunch counter in the country (or country club) of his choice -- no questions asked.

"Government coercion" indeed.
