I can honestly say that I finally found something that Barack Obama and I agree on. Finally, the man is OUTRAGED by Rev. Wright.
Laboring to contain damage to his presidential candidacy, Obama said Wright's recent appearances had left him angry and sad. He accused his spiritual mentor of exploiting racism and "giving comfort to those who prey on hate" at a time when the Illinois Democrat is vowing to bring the nation together. And he strongly took issue with some of the pastor's more controversial remarks.
"When he states and then amplifies such ridiculous propositions as the U.S. government somehow being involved in AIDS, when he suggests Minister Farrakhan somehow represents one of the greatest voices of the 20th and 21st centuries, when he equates the United States' wartime efforts with terrorism -- there are no excuses," Obama said. "They offend me. They rightly offend all Americans."
Wright is exploiting racism and I've been saying that from the very beginning. Giving comfort to those that prey on hate... That's as close as you can get to calling someone a traitor and I don't mean traitor to the country. In this case, Rev. Wright is betraying Obama's cause and his trust.

Must be watching the brain-dead sheep in the corporate media (or did you figure that out on your own). Truth is, Wright just did Obama a huge favor, intentionally or not. He gave him an excuse to repudiate Wright completely. Now the right-wing and their media regurgitators can't even make ridiculous guilt-by-association accusations against Obama.
I really hated this whole episode. Just how much of this was becasue Obama's opponents (in the media, the Democratic and Republican Parties) saw an easy target that wouldn't get too much blowback. Did anyone dare go after John Kerry because the head of his Diocese, Cardinal Law, had to leave his position in disgrace over the pedophiles he ordained?
No, that would been somehow too far, but by the standards we have with Wright, it would have been fair game.
I don't know so much about Obama's motivation in this as much as Wright's. Did he pour it on in order to give Obama no choice, and a face-saving way to utterly repudiate Wright? OR, will Wright be back, slamming Obama some more because he liked his 15 minutes and really does want to undermine Obama?
I'm more suspicious of Wright than Obama here.
And Rosemary is obsessed with a Illinois preacher.
For fuck's sake.
Ever listen to Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity? Or Chris Mathews, or Wolf Blitzer for that matter? The whole right-wing/media nexus has gone utterly, batshit insane.
I mean, even more than usual.
No, actually. So much so that I recently canceled my cable.
My compliments. I'd like to distance myself from them as well but, unavoidably, they have too much of an influence on my life.
Thank God for Olberman and Stewart.
