Yeah, it's a quite popular sport in 49 of the 50 states. Especially for those of us still wearing heavy coats in May...FUCK, it's cold outside. Brrr!

Actually, hockey is NOT popular at all. Last year's Stanley Cup had a tv rating of 1.6 with the all star game having a 0.8 rating.

Let's put that in perspective. The WB's George Lopez show had a rating of 3.1 and that's a friggin syndication show!!!

Seinfeld in its prime had a rating of 21.7.

So, hockey is not popular at all. Hell, MLB has twice the viewers of hockey and the NBA playoffs is 4 times more popular than NHL championship finals.

Again, if you want to be considered a major sport in the US, you can't have a majority of your games televised on the OLN.

My wife is from Southwest Florida, and when their teams have made it to the playoffs...she told me that PR folks from the teams couldn't even GIVE AWAY tickets in the mall.

I'm from Georgia, I watch ESPN religiously, and I don't care about hockey.

Something else that I don't understand is why "Sportscenter" continues to put hockey highlights in their top ten plays every night. Every single score looks pretty much the same to me. The only thing good about hockey is that some of it's athletes still have mullets.

Lots of hockey bashing. I'm not a big fan, but it's a great sport to play, and a lot of fun to watch in the arena. I don't think it translates as well to TV as well as some other sports.

While I am a lifelong Bruins fan, I always liked all the original teams, including the Red Wings. Gordie Howe, octopi -- great team with a terrific history. So, Go Red Wings!

I don't like hockey. I've never understood the appeal. But, at least we have a team that has made it to the finals, since it looks like it's going to be a clah season for the Tigers.

Rose,

We are lucky we live where we do, we can pick up the CBC. Otherwise we'd be stuck watch the Stanley Cup Finals on VERSUS (formerly OLN). If Hockey was still popular, or at least remotely popular, NBC or FOX would be all over the Stanley Cup finals. Sadly, the NHL shot themselves in the heart when they lost an entire season a few years back..
