TQL:
I find it amazing that in many of these analysis, the big old stinking elephant in the room is being ignored and awkwardly danced around.

The whole, Obama can't win White, working class states is really code for, "those bigots aren't going to vote for a Black man". I know that is not what folks want to hear, but it is the truth.

It was very clear in the exit poll results in KY last night - that for the sizeable percentage of people for whom race was a factor, "cultural similarity" was a factor, and Wright was a factor, those voters all voted for Clinton in HUGE numbers. In fact, there was an interesting discussion that Hillary needs to come out and say she doesn't want the votes of people who are primarily voting for her based on their racial attitudes, and to say that she knows Obama personally, and he doesn't think like Wright. But then, why would she do that, when she's been able to win precisely by playing on all of this.

Whenever I watch the returns, especially over the last couple of months, the glaring divisions of race in this country are front and center, yet folks don't really want to talk about it.

I hope he can overcome those divides and that those Dems who have stuck by Clinton will vote their economic self-interest and not turn tail and vote for McCain... but, given the commentary that I've read here and elsewhere, that is very, VERY doubtful.

Tim (mail):

I can't wait to blog about the election results this fall!

Your blog won't even last that long ;-) Once Obama crushes McCain you should be banned from publishing political threads.

We regret to inform you that indeed, the Queen, missed the last boat bound for reality island.
